Personal Project - Still Life

Last November, I went to CTN, where I met a ton of talented students as well as some awesome professionals who were generous enough to give us tips and advice. One suggested that I work on a still life. So, here is a personal project I started on after art school. Like Fred, I hadn't touched this in awhile... My teacher had a ton of pointers for me, so this is definitely a work in progress or scrapped for another attempt.

I was a little bored by the idea of just doing a still life... so I came up with a scenario/story. The idea was that an artists has a little shack near the ocean, which he uses as an artists studio filled with different art mediums, canvases, easels, etc. This still life was a small section of the greater picture. The artist was having a lunch break while working on this oil pastel piece of the still life, when it was interrupted. Since that moment, the still life has been untouched and the produce have gone on to rot as dust has heavily settled everywhere.

Here are some stills of the scene and some progress.

Fred - Personal Project

I haven't posted in awhile, but I have been working! Close to the end of art school (back in November), I started working as a production assistant at Atomic Fiction. It's a small studio in Emeryville that works on amazing projects! I've met so many talented people there who are not only incredibly smart but also have great personalities.

While I was working as a production assistant, I worked on Fred! Here he is:

Fred is the nickname for my friend Jenny's creature. Here is her concept:

If I haven't pointed out my talented friend's work, here is her blog: http://jennybach.blogspot.com/

During Reel Pro 2, I asked another friend to model him while I was working on my robot. Here is Evan's model of Fred: (Btw, Evan is a great animator and CG generalist.)

Then I started texturing him! At first I thought, MAN! Why is he so ugly! But I realized I needed to sculpt Fred some more to match Jenny's concept. Also, I decided to put a little environment around him and had fun with the leaves. Here's a progression of Fred.

I still need to give him some more time/work to do Jenny's concept justice. It's been months since I touched this project, and after a break it's easy to pick out a million fixes to make!

My Website

Long overdue... but after Reel Pro 2, I went into Portfolio, where I designed and built my site.

Here it is: http://cindyl.in/

I had help, but it was fun to pick up and learn some html and css. Good thing I started on this site design before Portfolio, because about two weeks in, I started working at Atomic Fiction! I've been MIA since then, but will get back to updating my blog and website.
